Lynx Defeat Sewanee

The Rhodes College baseball team defeated Sewanee 6-5 this afternoon at Stauffer Field.  Brent Lindsey drove in the winning run with a walk-off single to right center field in the bottom of the ninth.  Sophomore Hunter Chandler picked the victory for the Lynx to improve his record to 3-1 on the year.  Rhodes is now 24-14 (8-6 SCAC).

Freshman Austin Carden worked the first 6 innings allowing 7 hits, 5 runs, 4 walks, and struck out 3.  Sophomore Hunter Chandler pitched the last 3 innings allowing 1 hit, no runs, no walks, and struck out 2.

The Lynx offense was led by sophomore RF Brent Lindsey who was 4-4 on the day with a homerun, 2 runs scored, 4 RBIs, and stole a base.  Sophomore C Chris Conkell was 3-5 with a run scored and drove in one.  Junior LF Brandon Valentine was 2-4 with 2 runs scored and stole a base.

Rhodes won the first game of the day 2-1, behind a great pitching performance by Senior Andy Holt.  Holt threw his third complete game of the year, going all 9 innings, allowed 7 hits, 1 run, no earned runs, walked 2, and struck out 8.  Holt is now 6-1 on the year.  Sophomore RF Brent Lindsey drove in both Lynx runs with a 2 run homerun in the bottom of the first.

Rhodes will conclude their final home series of the year tomorrow with Senior Day.  First pitch is set for 1:00 as Rhodes will honor their senior at 12:45.
